CHRISTOPHER BARNES ___________________________________________ two
poems by CHRISTOPHER BARNES JAZZ Swell-hung notes Baby it out In wrong songs
Rubber-flung riffs Billy goat to munch On green hills of blue
Dead-stopped falling trains Crystallise nuggets Of satchel-mouth books
War is the senses In the frying Soul Food Of the intellect
JEAN-CLAUDE
IN THE PARK
Rapiers of twitch grass Hand the colourfast sackcloth, The cogent objectivity of its stitches.
Didn’t it slip in from Versailles?
You bottleneck the air with a crack And the ink of hot coffee Tinctures pollen, A brain-shaped fungus.
The concussed breeze Sweats your Toulouse oils.
We impinge Pate in celery, croissants, Back olive salad tugging flies.
Other liaisons perch In boats, laburnums rub each other up At bough-ends, and silver fish Call out to each other Undoing the self-deception of isolation.
